Development permits are required for new construction, renovations, additions, and changes in land use within the Town of Lac du Bonnet. The Planning District reviews all applications to ensure compliance with zoning by-laws and the development plan.

The 2025 Housing Report provides a comprehensive overview of current and future housing needs. Based on a survey of 192 residents, the report confirms that Lac du Bonnet is a stable, growing community with increasing housing demand.

- Most households seek three-bedroom homes in affordable, mid-price ranges
- Growing demand for smaller units, condos, apartments, and assisted/independent living
- Nearly half of residents spend more than 30% of income on housing
- Shortage of mid- and long-term rental options
- Clear need for a broader mix of housing types

π² Visiting Lac du Bonnet
There are over 60 kilometres (35 miles) of waterways in the region. The area is the second most popular fishing region in the province, second only to the Red River.
Situated at the boundary of prairie farmland and boreal forest, Lac du Bonnet is also a bird watcher's paradise. Over 300 species of birds can be found within a few kilometres of the Winnipeg River. This variety is mainly due to the region's unique topography and assortment of rivers, lakes and marshes.
Swimming, boating, water skiing, baseball and slow-pitch are popular summer activities, enjoyed by thousands of cottagers, campers and locals. Lac du Bonnet and other regional municipalities have joined as partners in building the Trans-Canada Trail.
Winter activities include snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and ice fishing. An active Recreation Commission with a full-time Recreation Director coordinates many programs and activities year-round.
Power toboggan clubs and groomed trails, archery, walking and cycling trails, and Old Pinawa Dam Provincial Heritage Park are located within the region.
